The Abbeydale Picture House have been awarded The Duke of York's Community Initiative.

Established in 1997, The initiative is primarily concerned with the development of community spirit, individual leadership and initiatives in Yorkshire and the Humberside.

The Duke of York's Community Initiative is an exciting venture which supports community projects throughout Yorkshire and Humberside, by recognition of excellence. In January 1998 HRH The Duke of York presented the first Community Initiative Awards to ten schemes, from different parts of the region, run by their local communities.

The Awards not only recognise the considerable achievement of these projects to date, but also facilitate through networking and the sharing of good practice the development of similar schemes in the future.

The Duke of York's Community Initiative aims to improve community spirit in the region by encouraging partnerships and Yorkshire-based companies to become actively involved in the communities in which they operate.

The Abbeydale Picture house are extremely happy about receiving such an important award. Winning this award is a proud moment for The Abbeydale and the community we work with!
